What smart short links and dynamic QR codes are for

A short link is not just a shorter URL. It's a smart routing point that decides at runtime where to send each visitor based on who they are and where they come from. Same link in print, on social, in emails, on badges — different destinations depending on country, operating system, browser language, or A/B random split.

It is most useful for international campaigns: a single link across all your materials that sends visitors from Switzerland to the Swiss site, visitors from Germany to the DE site and everyone else to the fallback destination. For multi-platform apps: a link that takes iOS to the App Store, Android to the Play Store and desktop to the download site, with no intermediate pages.

Every short link has its own statistics: total clicks, distribution by country, operating system and browser, trend over time. Each link uses one criterion (country, operating system, language or A/B) with a fallback destination. And short URLs are customizable (e.g. bizcard.ch/link/promo-swiss), so they are easy to remember when printed or read out loud.

How to create a smart short link

  1. 1

    Create the short link

Pick a memorable slug (e.g. promo-2026) or let one be generated at random. Set a fallback destination.

  2. 2

    Add the rules

Choose the link's criterion (country, operating system, browser language or A/B) and a destination for each value. Visitors who don't match go to the fallback destination.

  3. 3

    Distribute and measure

Print the link on materials, drop it in ad campaigns, share it on social. Monitor clicks in real time from the dashboard.

Short links and dynamic QR codes FAQ

What if a visitor doesn't match any rule?

They are redirected to the fallback destination you set.

Can I change rules after publishing the link?

Yes, anytime. Changes are immediate — the next click respects the new rules. The short link itself stays the same.

Does it work with UTM parameters?

Yes. You set UTM parameters on the link and bizCARD adds them to the destination, so they reach your analytics tools.

How does country detection work?

Based on the request's IP address, at country level (CH, DE, IT…). That is enough for most campaigns.

How many short links can I create?

Solo plan: 5 short links, Team: 20, Business: 100. Not included on the Free and Personal plans. Every short link has its own statistics.
